We continue our hero preview with our Number 3, 4 and 5 picks in the Tank role.
OUR NUMBER 3 PICK IS:
Difficulty - low-mid
Our Ovw boost thinks that the competition for the 3rd place is not won by a lot. All three of the tank heroes in Overwatch are almost equally good. Roadhog won the challange in our eyes for two main reasons. He has the best sustain + he outdamages his competitors. Picking this hero is not a must in your games, he is more of an occasional pick on maps that have less vast open spaces since he focuses mainly on low-range battles.
Strengths - Amazing sustain, very tanky, great objective control, high damage ult, high damage low ranged auto attack, good 1 v 1, his hook can get enemies out of position and provide easy kills, really fun to play.
Weaknesses - Low mobility, low flanking potential, bad mid-long range damage, needs smaller spaces to be useful.
Scrap Gun - Roadhog's Scrap Gun fires short-range blasts of shrapnel with a wide spread. Alternatively, it can launch a shrapnel ball that detonates farther away, scattering metal fragments from the point of impact.
Take A Breather - Heals 300 HP - Roadhog restores a chunk of his health over a brief period of time.
Chain Hook - Roadhog hurls his chain at a target; if it catches, he yanks them into close range.
Whole Hog Ultimate AbilityEdit - Lasts 6 Second(s) - After cramming a top-loader onto his Scrap Gun, Roadhog pours in ammo. For a short time, he can crank out a stream of shrapnel that knocks back enemies.
How to play Roadhog (Basics)
Roadhog is in our top 3 most fun to play champions and that is for a reason. His hook ability is known in other MOBA games, but not really as a FPS skill. It is something that is really rewarding and fun when you are hitting enough from them. Roadhog is a - in the face champion that needs to move close to his opponents in order to provide what he is made for. Make your path towards the enemies and hook the ones that seem to be out of position and within your range. Use your self heal ability constantly, the cooldown is relatively low and can make you pretty much unkillable if played correctly. Try to take a position where you can have some safety for a second or two while you use the heal, after that go in again and chunk your enemies HP bars. This operation should last around 5-10 seconds, then you fall back - reheal and do the same thing again. The worst situation is when you get in the middle of the fire, because that way you might not be able to full your HP again, try to take things slow and periodiclly appear and attack your enemies, dont overcommit because eventhough you are a tank, your main strength is your healing. Always look to pull squishier enemies with your hooks, but you can also do it to grab a Reinhardt that is charging at your team, that way you will provide safety for your teams damage dealers.
Your ult is amazing in some situations - find a way to get close to your enemies, then they are trying to get an objective or when they are moving through a narrow path - the damage output is devastating for any opponent and is quite often a "play of the game" situation.
OUR NUMBER 4 PICK IS:
Difficulty - mid-high
The monkey doctor is a real terror when played by a good player. He is a great pick for almost every teamcomposition since he provides both good invading ability and good defense for your team. Although Reinhardt is in our eyes the better champion to play, Winston has other strengths that others dont posses.
Strengths - Great ultimate, Great all in, Good mobility, Hard to kill, Great objective control, Good for pushing and for defending.
Weaknesses - Low damage auto attack, really short range damaging abilities, Limited area shield.
Tesla Cannon - Winston’s weapon fires a short-range electric barrage for as long as he holds down the trigger.
Jump Pack - Assisted by his energy pack, Winston lunges through the air, dealing significant damage and staggering nearby enemies when he lands.
Shield Projector - Winston’s shield projector extends a bubble-shaped field that absorbs damage until it's destroyed. Allies protected by the shield can return fire from within it.
Primal Rage (Ultimate Ability) - Lasts 10 Second(s) - Winston embraces his animal nature, significantly boosting his health and making him very difficult to kill, strengthening his melee attack, and allowing him to use his Jump Pack ability more frequently. While raging, Winston can only make melee and Jump Pack attacks.
How to play Winston (Basics)
Winston is an all in hero that wants to be in the middle of the fight or zoning the squishies by forcing them to run away from him. He is a champion that can provide limited area protection, which is in our point of view his most important to use ability. Putting the large shield sphere allows your team to act freely within that area. It's a great skill to make your pushes undisrupted and to make your way towards the objectives. However the fact that it has a limited area is in many cases a big minus, because Overwatch is so active and full of movement that you will rarely be able to really place it good enough to make a significant impact on how the fight is going. Our advice is to use it mainly on objectives and when you rush forward - just put it in the faces of your high damage enemies.
Winston's jump pack allows him to go to seemingly hard to reach places, giving him the chance to be a real terror for long-range squishies like Widow maker, Hanzo and others that like staying at the rooftops spamming their autoattacks. You go there - they die 90% of the times :).
Your ultimate is your biggest strength - use it when you are starting the 5-6 man push towards the objective and kill the ones that terrorise your team most, force them to back away or just kill them as your HP bar and Auto attack damage is significantly increased, making you a mele killing machine.
Your biggest weakness is your auto attacking weapon - it's low-range and low-damage but can still make useful impact if aimed towards the right targets.
OUR NUMBER 5 PICK IS:
Difficulty - high
We really had some difficulties picking the last 3 places order, but it seems that Zarya in general is the champion that attributes the least for the Victories. It's not that she is a bad hero - quite the opposite, she can make meaningful plays quite constantly, but her lack of mobility and not really damaging autos placed her on the last spot in the Tank role.
Strengths - Tanky, Able to protect allies in trouble, Fight-changing ultimate, Good for pushing and for defending.
Weaknesses - Low damage auto attack, Low mobility, Struggles in 1 v 1s vs most champions.
Particle Cannon - Zarya’s mighty Particle Cannon unleashes a short-range beam of destructive energy. Alternatively, Zarya can lob an explosive charge to strike multiple opponents. The charge costs up to 25 rounds per shot.
Particle Barrier - The Particle Cannon can emit a personal barrier that shields Zarya against incoming attacks, redirecting their energy to enhance her weapon’s damage and the width of its beam.
Projected Barrier - Zarya surrounds one of her teammates with an energy barrier that simultaneously absorbs fire and boosts the power of her Particle Cannon.
Graviton Surge (Ultimate Ability) - Lasts 4 Second(s) - Zarya launches a gravity bomb that draws in enemy combatants and deals damage while they’re trapped.
How to play Zarya (Basics)
Zarya is a hero that is focused around protecting and pushing with another tanky hero. For example Zarya and Roadhog or Reinhardt make an amazing pushing duo that is almost unkillable and creates situation for the damage dealing allies to really shine.
However Zarya is not a solo play maker or pusher. She is slow and not really able to get to locations that others can, therefor she can not eliminate the backline on her own. Her damage output is simply not high enough to make meaningful damage or to provide secured areas that her team can advance from. She is more of an Offtank that if combined with the proper teamcomposition can create opportunites and take over objectives easily.
Her one great strength is her Ultimate which can singlehandedly destroy the whole enemy team. It's great when you are defending and the opposing team is trying to get your capture the objective point. It creates such a huge damage dealing opportunity that in many cases destroys the whole offense.
